Turkey duty-free allowance: how much can you buy?

You can shop at duty-free stores in Turkish airports and border crossings, but when entering Turkey the amount you can buy is the same as the passenger allowance — duty-free purchases are not added on top. When leaving Turkey, the limits are three times higher.

The rules in short

  • Duty-free shops sell only to the traveller in person.
  • When entering Turkey you may buy at duty-free up to the quantities in the passenger allowance list. It is not a separate entitlement; it comes out of the same limit as the goods in your luggage.
  • When leaving Turkey the quantities are tripled for travellers and for vehicle drivers and crew.
  • Alcohol and tobacco are not sold to anyone under 18.
  • Goods bought when leaving are subject to the customs rules of the country you travel to.

Vehicle drivers and crew

Drivers and crew of means of transport are not considered passengers and cannot use the passenger allowance. On entering Turkey they may buy only the following at the shops of border crossings used by passengers:

  • 1 carton of cigarettes
  • 1 bottle of alcohol of at most 1 litre
  • 1 perfume of at most 120 ml and 1 cosmetic product
  • At most 1 kg of chocolate or sugar confectionery

Drivers and crew leaving through a land border can use this right on their return at most 10 times a month.

If you exceed the limit

The allowance is limited to the quantities on the list. For tobacco, quantities above the limit are treated as commercial. Product details and documents: cigarettes, alcohol, perfume.

Importing e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products is banned; only the 1 device a traveller aged 18 or over is already using and a limited amount of consumables may enter: e-cigarette page.
